Lockheed Martin, in partnership with the U.S. Army, successfully demonstrated the in-flight retargeting of a Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS) rocket during a test at White Sands Missile Range. Launched from a HIMARS system, the rocket used Lockheed Martin’s Strigo datalink and Remote Interceptor Guidance-360 (RIG-360) to receive updated targeting information mid-flight before successfully striking a moving target.
The demonstration marks a step toward enhancing the Army’s existing precision-strike capabilities without fundamentally redesigning the GMLRS missile. By connecting sensors, launchers, and targeting systems, the technology enables commanders to adjust targets after launch as battlefield conditions evolve, improving flexibility against moving or emerging threats.
The datalink technology could also support other precision-fire weapons, including Extended Range GMLRS and the Precision Strike Missile (PrSM). According to Lockheed Martin, the successful test advances the Army’s vision for a connected battlefield in which networked systems deliver more adaptable and responsive precision fires.
