L3Harris Technologies has secured a three-year contract worth up to $60 million to advance a long-range, maneuverable interceptor for the U.S. Army’s Xtended Range Counter-sUAS Missile (XRC) program, led by the Combat Capabilities Development Command Aviation & Missile Center. The program aims to counter small- and medium-sized unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) and conventional short-range air defense threats.

L3Harris has advanced to the program’s second phase, which focuses on flight performance testing of a fully integrated interceptor designed to deliver greater range, speed, and operational flexibility. The system combines advanced propulsion, guidance, and seeker technologies and is intended to be compatible with existing U.S. military launch platforms. Its propulsion approach aims to improve fuel efficiency and extend engagement range.

Northrop Grumman is also involved in the XRC program, developing ramjet propulsion technology for missile prototypes. The companies’ efforts support the Army’s goal of strengthening counter-drone and air defense capabilities through longer-range interception and improved operational flexibility.
