Red Cat Holdings announced additional details on its contract to supply 173 Black Widow small unmanned aerial systems (sUAS) to Japan’s Ground Self-Defense Force under Japan’s Acquisition, Technology & Logistics Agency (ATLA) procurement program, funded through Japan’s Fiscal Year 2026.

Each system includes two Black Widow aircraft, a WEB ground control station, and supporting mission equipment. The company is delivering the systems in partnership with HAMA K.K. and ITOCHU Aviation, with in-country training and light maintenance support provided by HAMA personnel trained by Red Cat.

The award marks Red Cat’s second major Asia-Pacific allied contract following an earlier Australian Army order, expanding the adoption of the NDAA-compliant Black Widow platform for tactical intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) missions. The program also includes spare parts, training support, and plans for deeper local industrial involvement through potential licensed manufacturing and expanded maintenance capabilities in Japan.
