Saab has successfully completed the first flight of the Gripen F, the two-seat variant of the Gripen E, at its airfield in Linköping, Sweden. The 40-minute flight, conducted by Saab and Brazilian Air Force test pilots, confirmed the aircraft’s core systems and initial flight performance.
The first flight marks the beginning of the Gripen F’s airborne test campaign. Future testing will progressively expand the aircraft’s operating limits, including speed, altitude, G-load and angle of attack, while also evaluating its tactical capabilities and rear-cockpit systems.
The Gripen F is the product of a Swedish-Brazilian strategic partnership, with Brazil playing a major role in its co-development. More than 350 Brazilian engineers, technicians and pilots have participated in training and activities covering development, production, testing and maintenance.
Following completion of testing and acceptance procedures in Sweden, the Gripen F will be prepared for delivery to the Brazilian Air Force.
