The Pentagon is preparing to launch the Low-Cost Containerized Munitions (LCCM) program, a new initiative aimed at potentially acquiring more than 10,000 low-cost, containerized missiles over three years beginning in 2027, reports Military Times. Framework agreements have reportedly been established with Anduril Industries, Leidos, CoAspire, and Zone 5 Technologies, with testing expected to begin in 2026.

The program is designed to expand access to affordable, mobile missile systems that can be deployed from standard shipping containers. The Pentagon says the effort reflects a broader shift toward working with newer defense technology firms alongside traditional contractors to rapidly scale munitions production.

Separately, Castelion reached an agreement tied to its Blackbeard hypersonic missile, with plans for minimum annual purchases once testing is completed and a potential pathway toward procurement of more than 12,000 missiles over five years. The announcements come as the Pentagon increases funding requests for munitions amid rising global conflict and demand for long-range strike capabilities.
