Saronic Technologies and Castelion Corporation have announced plans to demonstrate the launch of a hypersonic vehicle from an autonomous surface vessel by 2027. The project will integrate Castelion’s Blackbeard hypersonic system with Saronic’s Marauder, creating a new approach to distributed maritime strike operations.

The companies believe this capability could strengthen deterrence by providing more launch options at lower cost than traditional crewed platforms. By distributing hypersonic weapons across autonomous vessels, military forces could increase flexibility, expand strike capacity, and make operations more difficult for adversaries to predict.

To support the effort, both companies are investing in expanded manufacturing facilities and conducting joint testing activities. Their goal is to deliver a scalable and affordable capability that can be fielded rapidly to support U.S. and allied defense needs.
