Slouching Forward

After branding Governor Janet Mills too old and too boring, the Democratic left allowed Graham Platner to march forward as their party’s nominee for a seat in the Senate.

Despite Platner’s Nazi tattoo, his boorish behavior, new revelations of his extramarital sexting, and obnoxious social-media posts, Maine Democrats shrugged off the risk.

As Kimberley Strassel notes in the WSJ, this was amateur hour for Maine Democrats, who shut the door on Maine’s best pickup opportunity this fall—the race against sitting GOP Sen Susan Collins.

Sen. Bernie Sanders also endorsed Graham Platner, and Ms. Strassle notes.

Democrats have spent a decade deploring Mr. Trump as unfit for office. In nominating Mr. Platner, they’ve tossed aside that standard, in favor of one that says any candidate is acceptable who can win for their side, no matter the record or behavior.
