A Hopeful Future without Details
President Joe Biden was a clunker. Tom Petty sings about no longer being ashamed by the car he drives (“End of the Line”). By dumping Joe Biden, Democrats have rid themselves of their clunker and no longer need to be ashamed/embarrassed. They are geared up with a “new, more energetic” replacement, writes Charles Lipson in Spectator US. One Kamala Haris. But the problem for many is nobody knows what she thinks.
Isn’t This Odd
Mr. Lipson believes that he isn’t the only one wondering, “Isn’t this odd? … The switcheroo raises three fundamental questions for the election:”
- How long will Harris’s novelty last?
Answer: until Labor Day, but probably not longer.
- How does Harris deal with the Biden administration’s policy failures?
Answer: by emphasizing a hopeful future with few details and avoiding talking about her role in the administration’s mistakes.
- How does Harris deal with her record of very progressive positions, on tape from her last presidential run?
Answer: by downplaying most of them, backing away from a few, and emphasizing other issues: abortion rights, identity politics, and “preserving democracy.”
Judgment Day, the Ninth Wave
Imagine if Kamala, the Border “Hawk,” wanted to be known and understood? Too bad for that, writes Peggy Noonan in the WSJ. Regardless of what Kamala Harris’s policies are, which seem even to the left of Joe Biden’s, the media has joined the Democrat Party with full-throttled support, warns Mr. Lipson:
True, as reporters, they should have relished the drama of an open convention. But their professional responsibilities pale beside their partisan commitments. They thirst for Democratic victory. It showed in their support for Biden when he was the near-certain nominee. It showed when the party elders and major donors turned against Biden and worked to oust him. The media fell in line behind Pelosi and Obama. And they are showing it now. They’re hanging out in the honeymoon suite with the new bride and ordering Champagne.
Has America gone crazy, or is it merely the media?
