US Air Force A-10 Warthog jets are playing a key role in attacking Iranian naval assets in the Strait of Hormuz, targeting fast boats and mine-laying vessels as part of efforts to reopen the critical waterway.
“The A-10 Warthog is now in the fight across the southern flank [of Iran] and is hunting and killing fast attack watercraft in the Strait of Hormuz,” Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff U.S. Air Force Gen. Dan “Razin” Caine said.
Though traditionally used for ground support, the A-10’s ability to loiter and strike small, fast-moving targets makes it well-suited for maritime missions, including countering Iran’s swarm boat tactics and drone threats.
The operations highlight the aircraft’s continued relevance even as it nears retirement, marking one of its final major combat roles in a high-intensity conflict.
