Today the president unilaterally gave amnesty to young illegal immigrants through an executive order. The first video is of today’s speech announcing the order. The second is a video from a March 2011 interview where President Obama says explicitly that he does not have the power to write such an order. As was written on these pages earlier today, the president’s powers are few. Unilateral blanket amnesty declarations via executive order are not mentioned in Article II of the Constitution. We would agree with the President Obama of March 2011, he does not have the power for such an order.
