At 75 and Post-Op He Still Moves Like Jagger

May 16, 2019 By The Editors

Despite being 75 and recently having heart surgery, Mick Jagger is working hard to maintain his stamina and fitness. Vogue’s Lauren Valenti reports:

Mick Jagger’s vitality knows no bounds. Just last month, the Rolling Stones frontman underwent heart surgery and, per doctor’s orders, had to postpone the band’s ”No Filter” tour. And yet, the 75-year-old superstar is already back at it. “It” being the rigorous dance cardio routine for which he’s always been notorious. This is the man who’s estimated to cover 12 miles while strutting and shimmying through shows at dizzying speeds, after all.

The thing is, Jagger’s major health obstacle—and subsequent showing of resilience on Instagram—has only upped the ante on the eternal question: How does he do it? Exuding magnetic charisma and high-endurance athleticism for over 50 years now, Jagger hasn’t slow down. And it’s all thanks to his sheer dedication to building strength and endurance through fitness. Since the age of 3, encouraged by his father, Basil, who was a physical education teacher, exercise has always been a constant in the singer’s life. And the older he’s become, the further he’s intensified and diversified his regimen.

Training with Torje Eike, a Norwegian personal trainer whose clients include Olympic athletes and soccer players (the latter is fitting considering Jagger is a notorious football fanatic), his routine has always included running, cycling, and kickboxing. “I train five or six days a week, but I don’t go crazy,” Jagger once explained. “I alternate between gym work and dancing, then I do sprints, things like that. I’m training for stamina.” And in recent years, Jagger has expanded his workouts, honing his posture, balance, and flexibility by doing yoga and pilates, as well as taking ballet lessons. The latter perhaps encouraged by his parter, American Ballet Theatre corps de ballet member Melanie Hamrick, with whom he had his eighth child, Devereaux, and recently collaborated on a ballet, Porte Rouge.

Jagger recently posted the video below on Instagram, showing his cardio dance fitness routine.
