It was pretty much all local color yesterday with state election lawn signs swamping the national ticket postings.
Moreover, we spent the day in some especially remote and sparsely populated areas outside of Pinehurst/Aberdeen, NC, into cotton field turf. All in all, we ended the day with not much of a reading.
What we can report is that South Carolina, like North Carolina, is heavily dominated by 2nd Amendment politics and a shooting culture, as highlighted in, for example, the excellent Garden & Gun magazine, influenced heavily by southern culture.
In “Traveler’s Guide to the Firearm Laws of the Fifty States,” South Carolina grades out at 88/100, or close to max gun-friendly.
In SC, a NRA-model Castle Doctrine “stand your ground” in public areas law is in place. No permit is required for possession or sale of semi-auto guns and high-capacity magazines.
Vehicle carry of loaded rifles and shotguns is also lawful.
Today we will swing down I-95 through Savannah, Georgia, Jacksonville, and St. Augustine near the Daytona Beach area.
