With the news that Rep. Jim Jordan will be running to replace Speaker Kevin McCarthy as the leader of the House of Representatives, my friend Mark Gambuzza gives his take that McCarthy’s ouster was a MAGA coup. He writes:
“Jordan just announced he is running for speaker. I think McCarthy’s ouster was a coup by the America First, Pro-Trump Republicans. Gaetz wasn’t talking out of his ass. They built Jordan up as the de facto head of the new conservative movement. He also stayed very neutral on the McCarthy situation. He is always very open about his position. I’ll bet he gets voted in on the first attempt on Wednesday. In a few months, Gaetz will be the Chair of some important committee. These guys are getting powerful with big money behind them. The writing was on the wall when Romney decided to bow out of his re-election bid.”
After Rep. Thomas Massie tweeted that Jim Jordan would be his first choice for new Speaker should he run, Rep. Matt Gaetz responded, tweeting, “My mentor Jim Jordan would be great!”
