Kodiak AI, Epirus, and General Dynamics Land Systems unveiled the Leonidas Autonomous Ground Vehicle (AGV)—a fully autonomous, mobile counter-drone system designed to defend critical infrastructure and military assets. Kodiak AI writes:
“Autonomous mobility fundamentally changes how advanced defensive systems can be deployed and operated,” said Don Burnette, Founder and CEO, Kodiak AI. “By integrating the Kodiak Driver with Epirus’ Leonidas platform and GDLS’ integration expertise, we are demonstrating how commercially developed autonomy enables mobile counter-UAS capabilities that protect critical assets and keep warfighters out of harm’s way. This collaboration directly meets the U.S. military’s need for scalable, adaptable and cost-effective autonomous ground vehicles.”
The vehicle combines Epirus’ high-power microwave technology with Kodiak’s AI-driven autonomy, enabling crewless or remote operations. It can rapidly deploy to detect and disable individual drones or swarms using directed energy—including the ability to take out jam-resistant tethered drones—offering a scalable, low-cost alternative to traditional interceptors while maintaining continuous, adaptable coverage in contested environments.
