Yesterday we kicked off our three-day Pennsylvania road trip counting lawn signs as we entered PA on Rt. 84 near Matamoras. Matamoras is in Pike County, across from Port Jarvis, NY. It’s the easternmost point in PA, just north of Milford, gateway to the Delaware Water Gap
From our Harley motorcycling days, we’ve been this stretch of 209 many times a year. We know the area like the back of our hands.
In 2016, we spent 20 days on the road gathering anecdotal evidence in the way of counting lawn and billboard signs and banners. Not once over those nearly three weeks did we witness the enthusiasm for one candidate that we saw yesterday.
In under one-half hour, we counted 56 signs for Donald Trump vs. only 11 signs for Joe Biden. That shocker comes on the heels of a Sunday surprise in heavily Democratic downtown Newport, RI, where “Team Trump “was out en masse with a horn honking flag and banner truck parade. No such outpouring for Biden.
The wrap-up for at our summer lawn sign count in the six-state New England region produced some spotty, but serious, enthusiasm for Trump in southwestern New Hampshire and inland Maine, but little else.
We saw zero enthusiasm for Joe Biden. In the end, Biden nudged out Trump in each of the six states, indicating that Biden should be the expected winner in each. No surprise if Trump captures either Maine or New Hampshire
Biden is a “gun grabber” for certain.
Maine grades a 99 out of a 100 in my Travelers Guide to the Firearms Laws of the Fifty States.
New Hampshire grades an almost perfect 97. NH has a NRA-model “stand your ground in public areas” law on the books. In NH, you can carry a loaded handgun openly while on foot.
