A Call from Within the House

Chuck’s Moral Quagmire

Could Rahm Emanuel seize the moment? What we are seeing is not good for the Democratic Party, according to William McGurn in the WSJ.

Hatred at a Fevered Pitch

Emanuel is the former chief of staff for the Obama White House. Later, he served as ambassador to Japan and mayor of Chicago. When it comes to putting his fists up, Emmanuel is no sissy. Then what does he do about Israel and the hatred of Israel? Doesn’t he need to remind Democrats of their history?

  • Harry S. Truman was president when the US recognized the state of Israel. The US was the first nation to recognize the state of Israel in 1948.

  • During the Yom Kippur War (1973), Sen. Henry “Scoop” Jackson backed crucial resupply efforts.

Formerly, American Jews and their liberalism were right at home in the Democratic Party.

But hating Israel now trumps progressivism—including for many Jews.

From the Associated Press:

  • 44% of American Jews hold a favorable opinion of Mr. Mamdani.

  • 39% of U.S. Jews view Mr. Netanyahu favorably.

Chuck Schumer, the first Jewish Senate minority leader, does not lead in Congress on Jewish/Israeli issues.

When a Stranger Calls

Here is how Mr. McGurn likens the senator’s position: it’s like the young babysitter in the 1979 horror film “When a Stranger Calls.”

After a series of disturbing phone calls, the babysitter calls the police. They get back to her with this chilling message: “The calls are coming from inside the house.”

Ditto, Chuck Schumer, scolds McGurn.
