BATS Takes Flight: Fast-Tracked Defense Against Drone Swarms

BAE Systems is developing a rapid-response counter-drone system called BATS (BAE Systems Anti Threat System) to tackle the growing threat of hostile drones.

The system combines smart software, electronic warfare, and kinetic options to detect, identify, and neutralize drones more cost-effectively than traditional missile-based defenses.

Designed with an open, scalable architecture, BATS can integrate multiple sensors and technologies while using real-time data and automated decision support to respond quickly to evolving threats. Development began in late 2025, with testing expected within months, highlighting an accelerated effort to protect military and civilian infrastructure.
