There hasn’t been a political pundit able to pierce through the haze in Washington D.C. quite as well as Tucker Carlson in a long time. After you finish reading this post I wrote in December, check out what I wrote about Tucker’s thoughts on America’s real goal, maximum happiness.
This Christmas when your family is gathered together in conversation, will you stick your neck out yet again in defense of President Trump?
The answer might be worth pondering for a moment. Because with Trump, there are only two camps: love him/hate him. The love him camp may not like what he tweets, but they like his pro-business policies. The hate him camp barely acknowledges him as worthy of discussion. Pass the peas please.
What has worked for Trump is his laser-like focus on Main Street and the Forgotten Man. His tax cuts delivered big time to his base, especially small business owners. But, as Tucker Carlson points out, he has not made good on his “chief promises,” like building the wall, defunding Planned Parenthood, and repealing Obamacare.
President Trump is in a tough spot. He’s created a new “nationalist” wing of the Republican Party, but can he win back support from voters he won in 2016 yet lost in November? Because he’ll need them to sell his vision. He’s burned a lot of bridges in the swamp, and it will take a herculean effort by the president to mend them. The question is, does he have the focus?
Tucker Carlson answers that question in an interview with Die Weltwoche magazine, saying:
“I don’t think he’s capable of sustained focus,” Carlson said. “I don’t think he understands the system. I don’t think the Congress is on his side. I don’t think his own agencies support him.”
The conservative television host elaborated later in the interview, saying he doesn’t think Trump can get things done because the legislative process is “highly complex.”
“In order to do it you really have to understand how it works and you have to be very focused on getting it done, and he knows very little about the legislative process, hasn’t learned anything, hasn’t … surrounded himself with people that can get it done, hasn’t done all the things you need to do so,” Carlson said.
