Delivering on Promises

In what he calls “giving credit where credit is due,” James Freeman reports in the WSJ:

Speaker Mike Johnson deserves full marks for a Tuesday House vote approving “one big, beautiful” budget framework for Trump’s first-year priorities. Despite media meddling, Democratic resistance and a handful of holdout GOP malcontents, Johnson held the major factions of his slim majority together to squeeze through a 217-215 victory.

“Well done,“ Mr. Freeman praises Speaker Johnson.

This is a major step toward preventing enormous tax hikes scheduled to begin at the end of this year, with the expiration of various provisions of the 2017 Trump tax reform. Avoiding incentive-killing income tax increases is the key to the U.S. growth strategy and essential given the likely economic cost of Trump tariff policies.
