Probably the most popular word on the lips of Democrats in Washington today is “filibuster.” They want to eliminate the Senate filibuster so they can usher in every bad idea they’ve ever dreamt up, starting with what they call “common-sense gun control.” As Tucker Carlson explains in the video below, that phrase is rarely joined by any further detail.
Vague Words from the Biden Administration
The president has been intentionally vague on his plans for gun control, leaving most of the work to the Senate. His press secretary, Jen Psaki told reporters “What our focus is on is putting in place common sense measures that will make our communities safer, make families safer, make kids safer.” That word-salad could mean anything you want it to.
But Biden did take time during his first press conference to talk about filibuster reform. He wants to go back to what’s known as a “talking filibuster.” That’s when senators have to stand up and talk as long as they can in order to prevent a vote. It almost always leads to a vote anyway, making it nothing like the modern filibuster.
Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV), who is seen as a crucial vote on the filibuster, has also voiced his openness to bringing back the talking filibuster. That makes it much more likely Democrats will have enough votes to change the rules.
Without the Filibuster, Democrats Will Go Wild
Once the filibuster has been removed, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) has already committed to voting on a “universal background checks” bill. Other senators want to reintroduce measures like the failed 1994 Assault Weapons Ban.

And when Joe Biden said he’d make O’Rourke his lead man on gun control, you learned everything you needed to know about Biden. It’s time to get your gun and your training now.
