Intercepted communications released by Ukrainian military intelligence suggest that some Russian troops on the front lines in Ukraine are facing severe shortages of food, water, and basic supplies, leaving units without orders and suffering extreme hunger and exhaustion. In one audio recording, a Russian soldier describes rapid weight loss and a lack of provisions, saying troops “don’t eat, we don’t drink at all,” as logistical support appears to collapse. Ukrainian officials say these accounts reflect systemic problems in the Russian army’s sustainment, contributing to declining morale and well‑being among fighters, reports Ivan Khomenko of United24Media. Khomenko writes:

Earlier, Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence Directorate reported that Russian soldiers on the front lines have begun turning to opioids like trimethylfentanyl and dolophine to cope with psychological exhaustion, failed assaults, and heavy losses—citing intercepted calls in which troops described drug use as the only way to endure the war.
