Yesterday Debbie and I drove our old Harley motorcycling route from Milford, Pa, along route 209 to southern Penn’s Carbon County into the Hershey area. We stopped the day’s lawn sign count pre-Hershey because it was a total skunking. The final count was 108 Trump/ 11 Biden.
Not only did Trump swamp Biden in terms of the raw numbers, but all the enthusiasm and energy in the form of big signs and banners went Trump’s way. This has been the trend all summer, in New England as well as in Pennsylvania.
Pennsylvania is a state, I read recently, where “Pittsburgh is on one side, Philadelphia is on the other, and Alabama is in the middle.” I’m not sure how true that is, but in the hard-bitten mining towns from Jim Thorpe to Hershey, PA, Biden was the decided loser.
On our way to Key West, we won’t be going anywhere near Philadelphia or Pittsburgh, so we have no anecdotal opinion on either area. Remember, though, Clinton comfortably won both these areas in 2016.
The Biden/Harris team, however, has generated so little enthusiasm in the states we have traveled through this summer that the word appalling best describes the effort. The total lack of any sensible economic message has totally crippled the Democrat effort and this has apparently sunk in with voters.
The 2nd Amendment is a huge deal in heavily NRA-influenced Pennsylvania. No permit is required in Pennsylvania for possession or sale of semi-automatic weapons like the AR-10 or high-capacity magazines. In most public areas open carry is unrestricted. BLM/Marxist thuggery could be expected to be greeted unpleasantly in Pennsylvania/Alabama.
Today Debbie and I will wrap up our lawn sign anecdotal evidence gathering on our run from the Hershey/Harrisburg area to beyond Carlisle/Gettysburg and into the Lynchburg, Virginia area.
