CEO Howard Schultz Clueless in Coffee Land

January 31, 2019 By Richard C. Young

The Democratic party has moved so far left that even the progressive former Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz is too conservative for its voters. Schultz has long teased a potential run for president as a Democrat, but looking at the radical ideas coming from the likes of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Elizabeth Warren, Schultz is now considering a bid as an independent. Of course, liberals are incensed that he would consider a run that would likely split moderate liberal voters away from any Democrat candidate, thereby strengthening President Trump’s chances for reelection. At The American Conservative, W. James Antle III explains this new development in the 2020 presidential picture, writing (abridged):

Liberals are hoping former Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz wakes up and smells the coffee before he winds up re-electing Donald Trump.

Schultz is an unlikely target of the latest progressive two minutes hate. He ran a famously woke coffee chain that has been hailed as “the most progressive company in the world.” He has been a Trump critic, slamming the president’s Twitter habits as a sign of weakness and insecurity. He reportedly considered seeking the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination.

But the Democratic Party of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and $42 trillion in new spending over 10 years is no longer interested in Schultz’s quaint concerns over fiscal responsibility and paying for the entitlement programs we already have. Now is the time for Bernie Sanders’ socialism, not Paul Tsongas 2.0. So Schultz has shifted to “considering running for president as a centrist independent.”

This has Democrats boiling with rage. A heckler at a Schultz event said it best. “You’ll help elect Trump, you billionaire, egotistical asshole.”
