Are You a Boy or Are You a Girl?

Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine speaking at the virtual press conference. The Pennsylvania Department of Health today confirmed as of 12:00 a.m., March 20, that there are 83 additional positive cases of COVID-19 reported, bringing the statewide total to 268. County-specific information and a statewide map are available here. All people are either in isolation at home or being treated at the hospital. “With your long blond hair you look like a girl.” The lyrics to The Barbarians continue, “You may be a boy, hey, you look like a girl.” Rachel-Richard Levine’s hair is more grayish than blond. And even with his unruly, long mop, Rachel-Richard, and despite his pearls, really doesn’t look ultra-feminine. Ms. Levine has a decidedly testosterone quality to her-him.

Breaking the Glass Ceiling

At the Spectator, Cockburn writes of the new feminist hero, courtesy of the Biden administration. On Tuesday, it announced that Rachel-Richard Levine, assistant secretary of health, would be sworn in as a four-star admiral in the US Public Health Commissioned Corps.

Levine will not only be the first openly transgender four-star officer in the uniformed services — according to the Biden administration, Levine will also be the “first female four-star admiral” of the health corps.

Always gracious, Cockburn wants to be the first congratulate Ms. Rachel-Richard Levine — “sorry, Admiral Levine! — on this historic achievement.”

How inspiring that Rachel, formerly known as Richard, only had to identify as female for about 15 percent of her life before becoming one of the most successful women in the world. No woman has blazed such a trail since Caitlyn Jenner earned Glamour‘s 2015 “Woman of the Year” award less than six months after announcing her new identity.

Charitable as well as gracious, Cockburn admires the great lessons we can learn from Admiral Levine’s quick ascent:

  • It takes a big set of balls to break glass ceilings.
  • Anything women can do, biological men pretending to be women can do better.

And Cockburn’s Personal Favorite:

  • Women without prostates seldom make history.

Enough about Levine’s identity though — it is not very feminist to elevate women simply because they are women. Cockburn is sure that the Biden administration also took a close look at Admiral Levine’s prior achievements and amazing contributions to public health:

Girlboss Aert!

  • Pulling Levine’s mother out of a nursing home and putting her in a hotel as Pennsylvania mandated that nursing homes accept COVID-positive patients.
  • Limiting public access to health data.

But wasn’t it the Keystone State that consistently has had one of the highest COVID death rates (deaths divided by total cases) in the country?

Jordon Davidson at the Federalist weighs in on Levine’s time as secretary of health in Pennsylvania, comparing Rachel-Richard to NY Governor Andrew Cuomo’s COVID response:

“During Levine’s time as secretary of health in Pennsylvania, the health official failed to address massive COVID-19 outbreaks in nursing homes and assisted care facilities across the states. … Meanwhile, Levine proudly enacted tyrannical lockdowns that weren’t based on science and botched the state’s COVID-19 vaccine rollout.”

Feminists’ New Hero Comes with Testosterone?

Was Levine Elevated Simply because he was a woman? Yet Cockburn envisions woman everywhere saluting their new feminist hero.

They (feminist) should also be saying a big “thank you” to the Biden administration for recognizing that smashing the patriarchy sometimes requires a heavy dose of testosterone.
