Your Survival Guy’s Go-To Breakfast Part 2

As you know from part 1, Your Survival Guy’s go-to breakfast is eggs. And when it comes to buying eggs, I always look for pasture-raised. I like talking with my local purveyors about their egg sources to learn about how the hens are livin’.

Turns out happy hens make the best eggs, and that comes with having some space outdoors to be free and eat grass, among other things. And if any of you have gone down the egg rabbit hole, you know it’s not as simple as just picking out any carton. In fact, some of my favorite eggs I buy have a neat little insert telling their story.

If you need an egg gold standard, it must be Vital Farms and their pasture-raised eggs. They have the most delicious bright orange yolks, and their informative little paper inserts, including “Bird of the Month,” tell a neat story.

This month’s bird of the month is Savvy Sydney, who, according to the insert,t forages for only the finest, freshest grasses in the pasture. “She’s totally kicking grass!” As a friend, Bella might say. And when their animal expert, Liz, is asked how she can tell if a hen is content, she responds: they’re calm and curious, just like us when we feel safe.
