The most complete food source in the world is a blue-green micro-alga called spirulina. Spirulina is largely made up of protein in the form of biliprotein. Spirulina is revered by purity aficionados not only for its protein content, but also for its extremely high levels of chlorophyll, fatty acids (GLA), and beta-carotene.
The health benefits of spirulina are legion. It’s effective in treating liver damage caused by alcoholism, malnutrition, and the consumption of nutrient-deficient foods. It also has defensive properties useful in protecting the kidneys from the debilitating effects of prescription medicines. The cleansing power of spirulina helps in the treatment of diabetes and inflammation. And what’s more, the blue pigment phycocyanin, a biliprotein, appears to aid in inhibiting cancer-colony formation. With over 100 nutrients and 60% protein, spirulina is also high in antioxidants and is thought to promote longevity.
Spirulina’s anti-inflammatory properties are important to the well being of aging people. The digestive nutrients in spirulina are beneficial in reinforcing the heart’s tissue, as well as providing a defense against the deterioration of one’s arteries.
I currently take spirulina from the only spirulina firm in Hawaii, Nutrex Hawaii. Hawaii’s deep seawater contains 94 trace minerals and is an excellent environment for spirulina.
