A Global Approval Rating of 76%

On the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare’s death, the Bard has a worldwide approval rating that Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton can only envy, 76%. As the WSJ notes, the “Dead White Englishman remains a global figure of astonishing vitality.”

Though Shakespeare was a man who lived in England at a particular time, so well do his plays and poems capture the human condition that they speak to all people at all times. Which makes him as relevant in our world as he was in his own. We’d even go so far as to predict that Shakespeare will survive this era’s progressive academic attempts to purge him for the sin of being the wrong race and gender.
