Your Survival Guy lives in a tourist town. That can be hard sometimes. When everyone’s on vacation having fun, one can feel like a guest. It makes me look forward to September, but when September comes, the kids are back in school, and the house is empty. That’s not a great feeling either.
“You can’t let that get to you, Survival Guy,” I say to myself.
“I know.”
“You can’t wait for the perfect day to use the boat, go to the beach, or have a cookout,” I think.
“You just have to go with the flow.”
Easier said than done.
It reminds me of boating. If I were to wait for the “perfect” day, I’d never leave the dock. But when the weather isn’t right, and no one wants to go out, I’ve learned not to push it. That’s no fun.
Yes, marinas are full of boats sitting on the docks of the bay. But then, like The Giving Tree, they’re happy to see you every time you show up. And they’re sad when the engines won’t turn over. But it’s not their fault, sitting and waiting all these days.
“Where’ve you been?” it wonders.
“Survival Guy,” I remind myself. “Boating isn’t a job. She’s there when you want it. She’s ready when you are. And that’s enough.”
Action Line: Don’t get caught up in the anxiousness of summer. It’s hard to keep it all together, and that’s OK. Before you know it, Labor Day will be yesterday. Enjoy today.
P.S. Be sure to read, Boomer Candy? You don’t want to chase a fantasy land.
