Happy? Are You Spending Your Money Foolishly? (Part 14)

Your Survival Guy was speaking with a client yesterday, and he said to me, “You know, I was talking with a friend the other day, and I wrote this down because I wanted to share it with you. I said to him, ‘Money can bring you happiness.’ He agreed and added, ‘and peace of mind.’”

“Peace of mind is one of my favorite phrases,” I said. It implies so much about how you live your life and why you’re happy. You’re not worried about what’s coming to get you around every corner. It doesn’t mean you didn’t work hard and save ‘til it hurts. That part is just what we did for survival.

Which brings me to your retirement life and getting out there to see the world. It’s tough shifting gears from the accumulation or hunter-gatherer phase to the spending phase. But what if there is something you want to do? What if you put it off and forget about it for a couple of years, only to realize it’s double the cost, and then you’re definitely not going?

At times, you need to commit to spending your money somewhat foolishly so you can make a deposit to the bank of memories. When you spend a lifetime at your craft, it can be hard to take a little for yourself, but I do believe you’re worth it.

Action Line: Put your happiness first. Spend your money somewhat foolishly after a lifetime of saving for this very moment. When you need help with your portfolio, email me at ejsmith@yoursurvivalguy.com. And click here to subscribe to my free monthly Survive & Thrive letter.
