Over 90 Competitive House Races in 2010

May 4, 2010 By Richard C. Young

House Races in 2010 – Jim Geraghty, National Review
Jim Geraghty counts over 90 house seats that he considers competitive elections in 2010. There are droves of open seats available to the GOP and many Democrats are going to have serious trouble this year keeping their seats in the House, especially freshmen who went to Washington on the “change” bandwagon only to deliver Obamacare to their constituents. – Dick Young

Republicans in Resurgence – Ramesh Ponnuru, National Review
Voters are simply fed up with government intervention in their lives, in other countries, and in the economy. The Iraq war, Obamacare, and bailout after bailout have given voters a very bad taste in their mouth. No voters are being asked to sustain the deficits with a VAT tax, a complete insult to American businesspeople. Voters don’t want cap and trade, they don’t want a VAT, they STILL don’t want Obamacare, and they want to see terrorists tried in military tribunals, not in New York City. – Dick Young

Tim Burns’s Hail Mary Pass – Robert Costa, National Review
Tim Burns cold become the first Republican since the Nixon era to represent Pennyslvania’s 12th district. The district has been occupied by John Murtha for decades and is now in an open race to fill the late congressman’s seat. The coal country voters of PA 12 recognize that Tim Burns is the only candidate in the race that won’t vote to cripple their livelihood with cap and trade. The voters here are pro-life, pro-gun, pro-small government and down on adding more debt to the federal government’s tab, that’s why Tim Burns is surging in the polls. – Dick Young

Congressional Blue Dogs in Trouble – Matt Hadro, Human Events
Conservative Americans opposed Obamacare’s passage wholeheartedly and any Democrat who voted for Obamacare and is representing a conservative district is going to be very vulnerable in November. Americans are outraged that Obama and the Radical Progressive Movement he leads took their eye off the ball on the economy and pushed through a massive wealth redistribution bill in the form of Obamacare. These Blue Dog Democrats turned out to be mutts of the first order, straight from the pound. All of those who foisted the RPM’s income redistribution health care monster on constituents must be dumped. – Dick Young

GOP Governors Group Swings into Action – Douglas A. Blackmon, The Wall Street Journal
Effective fundraiser and Chairman of the Republican Governors Association Haley Barbour is using the RGA’s funds to muscle through some races for governor where otherwise Republicans may not have a chance. Barbour has bought a massive amount of ad space in Massachusetts to plow through the Democratic and Independent (liberal) candidates in the state’s race for governor. The governors races of 2010 are very important as the governors elected will oversee the revision of congressional district boundaries after the 2010 census has been completed. – Dick Young

Democrats at Ramming Speed – Fred Barnes, The Wall Street Journal
The Radical Progressive Movement led by Barack Obama and steering the Democratic party is hell bent on pushing through programs the people of America simply don’t want anything to do with. Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid are pushing a value added tax, cap and trade, card check, the fairness doctrine to silence free speech, net neutrality to hamstring the growth of the internet, and worst of the recently passed Obamacare program. The audacity of these people is incomprehensible. The American people are out protesting like they never have before against the outrageous direction of the Obama administration, and the president and his allies just press forward as though they can’t see the anger. Democrats in Washington are definitely not listening to Americans. – Dick Young
