Rick Scott is the 45th Governor of Florida. Born in Bloomington, Illinois, and raised in Kansas City, Missouri, his father was a city bus and truck driver after his service in the 82nd Airborne during World War II, and his mother worked as a clerk in JC Penney. Governor Scott is a graduate of the University of Missouri- Kansas City, and earned his law degree from Southern Methodist University.
Growing up, Governor Scott’s family struggled financially. When he started public school, they were living in public housing. While his parents tried to find work, Governor Scott even witnessed his father’s car get repossessed. To make ends meet, his mother would often take on second jobs, like ironing, so they could afford groceries. That’s why Governor Scott is committed to helping Florida families find jobs and turn them into careers. He knows what’s at stake and that one job can change a life.
