Lee wins Utah GOP Senate Nod – David Catanese, Politico.com
Congratulations to Mike Lee for winning the Republican nomination for Senate in Utah. The nomination almost guarantees him a win in such a conservative state. Lee is one of my endorsed candidates and is a strong constitutional conservative. The Senate needs more senators like Mike Lee. – Dick Young
Abandoning Script, ‘Muslim Soldier’ Details Chilling Plot to Blow up Americans in Times Square – Associated Press, FOXNews.com
Failed Times Square bomber Faisal Shahzad calls himself a Muslim soldier wishing to kill Americans, including children. All of which would have been difficult to know seeing that he lived a “normal” life with a family while working as a financial analyst. That is, except for one fact: he received five days’ training in explosives in Pakistan before returning to the U.S. to carry out his terror plot. Why isn’t he being tried in front of a military tribunal? Attorney General Eric Holder seems to go out of his way not to use the word terrorist, and after the guilty plea by Shahzad, he had this to say in a statement, “…[A]nd today the American criminal justice system ensured that he will pay the price for his actions.” Criminal justice system? He’s a terrorist, not a criminal, Mr. Holder. There is a disturbing trend of weakness from the Obama administration. – E.J. Smith
The Runaway General – Michael Hastings, Rolling Stone
Whether you take offense at General Stanley McChrystal’s negative view of his superior officer (President Obama) you can easily see from Michael Hastings’ excellent article that the war effort in Afghanistan is being fouled up badly by the civilian leadership. A crisis of management from President Obama and perennial loudmouth Joe Biden, coupled with a civilian-side power vacuum have served up an untenable dish in the war in Afghanistan. General McChrystal seems to be prosecuting the war to the best of his abilities given the limitations he has been forced to accept. Americans would be better served if McChrystal were allowed to command special ops into Pakistan to kill al Qaeda, rather than attempt to pacify the unruly Afghanistan. America needs politicians in office that have a clue about what is going on in Afghanistan, not ones that stop by for a press conference and fly away. Gary Berntsen, running for Senate in New York is a former CIA expert on the country and would add a trove of much needed knowledge to the Senate’s handling of the situation in Afghanistan. – Dick Young
Kagan Unqualified To Be on Court – Rep. Ted Poe, Human Events
Elena Kagan’s views on the constitution are entirely opaque, aside from the times she has attempted to manipulate it for political reasons. Kagan is an obvious leftist, with at least sympathies for socialist thought. She should be given the same grilling that Robert Bork received when he was nominated, and the same denial of confirmation. – Dick Young
