ARX Robotics UK has successfully demonstrated its GEREON unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) during the July 20–29 Project Convergence-Capstone 6 exercise at Fort Irwin, California, the largest US Army experiment to date for evaluating emerging military technologies. The month-long exercise brought together forces from the US, UK, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand to test how advanced systems can operate in a multinational battlefield environment.

Eight GEREON vehicles operated alongside British forces in missions including reconnaissance, electronic warfare, counter-drone operations, logistics, and casualty evacuation. Operating around the clock in challenging desert conditions, the vehicles also successfully connected to allied communications and command-and-control networks, demonstrating their ability to support troops across a range of missions.

The growing role of unmanned ground systems is also being demonstrated on the battlefield in Ukraine. The DevDroid TW 12.7, operated by Ukraine’s 3rd Assault Brigade, reportedly held a frontline position for 45 consecutive days without infantry support, using its 12.7 mm machine gun against repeated Russian advances. The mission reportedly resulted in zero Ukrainian personnel losses, illustrating how ground robots can take on dangerous frontline tasks while reducing risks to troops.

The results from Project Convergence further highlight the potential of these systems. GEREON demonstrated its ability to share data across brigade, division, and corps-level networks, strengthening interoperability among allied forces. ARX says the experience will help shape future development of the GEREON platform and its Mithra AI-powered operating system, as militaries increasingly explore autonomous systems for complex battlefield operations.
