Sikorsky Launches Nomad 100 Fast Pack for Austere Operations

Source: Lockheed Martin

Sikorsky, a Lockheed Martin company, introduced the Nomad 100 fast pack, a containerized vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) uncrewed aerial system (UAS) designed to rapidly deploy autonomous aircraft from austere, infrastructure-limited, and contested environments. The system houses four Nomad 100 aircraft in a single 20-foot ISO container, alongside mission-command software, communications, power, and sustainment equipment, enabling rapid deployment, mobility, and reduced logistical requirements.

The Nomad 100 fast pack is designed for rapid operational readiness, with two aircraft capable of becoming mission-ready in less than 15 minutes and two additional aircraft available within four to six hours under the planned configuration. Its runway-independent design supports operations from naval vessels, tactical vehicle staging areas, and improvised landing zones. Depending on customer configuration, the system can support intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR-T), light attack, and contested logistics missions. Its containerized design also allows the system to be repacked, transported, and repositioned quickly between operating locations.

As part of Sikorsky’s Nomad family, the platform uses MATRIX™ autonomy to combine helicopter-like vertical lift and hovering with the speed, range, and endurance of fixed-wing aircraft. Lockheed Martin’s approach emphasizes operator-commanded autonomy, enabling systems to plan, execute, and adapt to complex missions in dynamic environments. Overall, the Nomad 100 fast pack aims to provide military customers with a scalable, mobile, and rapidly deployable autonomous aviation capability that enhances operational flexibility, reduces reliance on infrastructure, and supports the expansion of uncrewed aircraft operations in challenging environments.
