SWARM Biotactics, a German developer of bio-robotic systems using controllable living insects, has raised €10 million in seed funding, bringing its total funding to €13 million. The round, backed by international investors including Vertex Ventures US, Possible Ventures, and Capnamic, will help the company move from research to operational deployment.
SWARM’s technology equips cockroaches with custom backpacks for sensing, navigation, and communication, creating swarms capable of accessing environments too hazardous or restricted for traditional robots. The funding will support operational pilots in Germany, Europe, and North America, scale production of sensor backpacks and swarm infrastructure, expand R&D centers, and recruit top talent in insect neurobiology, AI, and robotics. The round was backed by a consortium of international investors from Europe, the United States, and Australia, including Vertex Ventures US, Possible Ventures, and Capnamic, who was the first investor in the pre-seed round. Several early backers also increased their stakes in the oversubscribed round.

SWARM will use the new funding to transition from advanced research to field deployment.
Priorities include:Launching operational pilots in Europe and North America with defense, national security, and emergency response agencies.

Expanding its R&D centers and its international go-to-market and engineering hub.
