Power Outages about to Get Even Worse in California

More Californians than ever are about to face the man-made disaster of an intentional power shutdown. As fires already blaze across the state, utility companies PG&E and California Edison are preparing for the biggest outages yet. Stuart Leavenworth and James Rainey report in the LA Times:

PG&E, which has 5.4 million electric customers and provides power to 16 million Californians, was projecting Thursday that it could shut off power across nearly all of its territory in Northern California on Sunday and Monday because of ferocious gusts.

“This system will likely be the strongest event of the year from a wind perspective,” the utility said on its website. “Federal forecast agencies are in alignment that this will be a high-risk weather event.”

Edison customers could face continued power shutoffs — or new ones — because of the weather forecast.

The utility said it will know more by Friday afternoon, but there was the possibility that about 380,000 customers across six counties in Southern California would have their electricity cut off Sunday afternoon.

When you face a disaster that promises to affect you for some time, whether it’s manmade or natural, you need to be prepared.

Until these manmade blackouts, Californians haven’t been subject to regular power outages like Americans in some parts of the country. Now, they are buying up generators at an incredible rate. If you live in an area threatened by power outages, there’s nothing better you can do for the stability of your standard of living than to have a whole house generator installed.

Don’t let inertia hold you back from protecting your family’s safety and happiness, prepare for the disasters you are likely to face today.
