Local reporters at the Minnesota Star Tribune published a devastating report, in which it detailed demolition costs from the riots that have left Kenosha reeling. The riots have caused significant economic, emotional, and environmental losses to businesses.
These costs far exceed what insurance companies will pay and what business owners can afford. Not taken into account is the cost to rebuild.
From the Star Tribune:
Like dozens of other investors whose properties were severely damaged in the May riots, the Kim family was stunned to discover that the money it would collect from its insurance company for demolition won’t come close to the actual costs of doing the job.
Most policies limit reimbursement to $25,000 to $50,000, but contractors have been submitting bids of $200,000 to $300,000. In many cases, the price of the work is not much lower than the actual value of the property, records show.
President Trump announced this week at a roundtable discussion: “We are going to get Kenosha back in shape, and we’ll get it very quickly,”
Trump announced $1 million in federal aid for the Kenosha Police Department, $4 million to help small businesses rebuild. He also announced $42 million for public safety across the state of Wisconsin, including for police and prosecutors, reports Fred Lucas in The Daily Signal.
Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers agreed (finally) to call up the state’s National Guard to quell the rioting in the city.
