Unreal: I was with our son and our youngest grandson yesterday at our local gun shop. The well-versed owner looked like he had just recently graduated from high school. (It is a little shocking how many folk have that look to me these days.) Matt and I were looking to make a series of weapons transfers that would take a while to run through the paperwork required. Every member of my family is trained in weapons safety and owns one or more rifles.
I had plenty of time to look around and talk with the owner and staff, as well as with other customers. Much anecdotal evidence was gathered in just half an hour. The primary word that quickly comes to my mind is shortages. There has been talk of shortages before, but not as severe as what I see in today’s environment.
Someone I happen to know well was waiting in line, looking to buy an AR7 Survival Rifle. The owner smiled and shook his said no, replying that the Henry Repeating Arms factory was on backorder status. It wasn’t that long ago, it seems to me, that I was able to buy seven AR7’s in one haul. Next up was discussion about the lack of availability of 9 mm ammo. Hard to believe, in that not long ago the Beretta 9mm was the handgun of choice for the U.S. Army!
Ok then, shortages now require that arms owners own a variety of weapons of varying caliber. I love the CCI 22lr hollow points, ideal for the AR7. A decade or so ago, I stocked up with a huge stash, assuring that I and family members would never run short.
My ultimate conclusion from my recent family gun shop outing is, as the Survival Guy writes often, it’s time to get your guns and your training.
