Call It What You Wil, but Don’t Call it Progressive
In American Greatness, Victor Davis Hanson writes about the historic counterrevolution that is taking place with the Trump victory. He also explains why this term is different from Trump 2016.
Despite critics reminding Donald Trump that he did not win 51% of the popular vote or a Reganesque landslide in the Electoral College, they are missing the bigger picture.
Trump campaigned to end an open border, massive illegal immigration, rising crime, and soaring prices. The people approved when he pledged to slash government and its administrative state, terminate racial and gender identity politics, and restore deterrence abroad.
Voters were weary of being talked down to by the media, academic, bureaucratic, and political elite, none of whom neither earned nor deserved such self-appointed status:
- Truely out of control were the FBI, the CIA, and the DOJ, not the massive crowds at Trump rallies.
- President Joe Biden really was suffering from dementia, not those who said it out loud
- Thinking there are only two sexes is not a thought crime.
- No one should be forced to buy an electric vehicle, disconnect their natural gas stove, or submit to racial or gender indoctrination sessions.
- Americans should be able to speak their minds and write what they wish without being censored, blacklisted, ostracized, doxed, shadow-banned, or jailed.
- Campuses are not oases of tolerance, disinterested inquiry, and free expression. Instead they are overpriced indoctrination centers that shred the Constitution and graduate indebted students who know less—but are far more biased—than when they enrolled.
- Donald trump and his appointees promise to slash over a trillion dollars from the annual federal budget. … maybe even disbanding entire agencies.
Is the objection to this ever-expanding government—$37 trillion in debt, running nearly $2 trillion in annual deficits—that it should just keep growing?
- Trump promises to reform the Pentagon, ending DEI Pentagon commissars and revolving-door corporate generalship.
- Trump also vows to hold those responsible for the catastrophe in Afghanistan. He also would reenlist soldiers who were driven out due to draconian vaccination mandates or woke intolerance. Trump envisions changing the entire system of military procurement.
Donald Trump has surrounded himself with an ideologically diverse cadre, including Elon Musk, Robert Kennedy, Jr., Dana White, Tulsi Gabbard, and Joe Rogan.
No longer, continues VDH, must we as a country apologize incessantly for past or present offenses. America now can be content to not be perfect, but to be better than the alternatives.
The age of flashing pronouns, renaming iconic landmarks, statue toppling, trashing the dead, vandalizing with impunity the campus library, or spouting anti-Semitic venom is passing.
So, another name for the Trump counterrevolution is a simple return to sanity.
