Dear Senator Newman,
My name is David Snowman. I am president of the Sterling Blower Co. in Forest, Virginia. I am writing to ask for your support in getting a Castle Doctrine bill passed here in Virginia. I know that our new president has your attention with his reckless spending and his attempt to put additional strain on small businesses, but I believe that the Castle Doctrine is very vital to our personal safety. My wife and I live in Bedford County, approximately 10 miles from Bedford City. We are both 66 years old and don’t have confidence that a call to the sheriff’s department would do us any good if someone were attempting to enter our home. At our ages, we don’t have the option of ‘running away’ from a person who would do us harm. As the law now stands, if we protected ourselves, we would be in jeopardy of either being sued by the criminal himself or by the next of kin should things go to that end. At a minimum, we would face a lengthy legal battle to clear our name. Please support this bill. Keep in mind, that approximately 30 states either have this law in place or have it in the works.
-David Snowman
