With another G-20 come and gone, what in the world has changed? Here’s what the summit did not accomplish:
No change in trade policy.
No change in environmental policies.
Will any of the leaders who signed the communiqué spend a moment thinking about how to implement it back home, asks Walter Russell Mead in the WSJ. G-20 summits are forgotten before the leaders reach home.
The world is not governed, or even significantly influenced, by a committee of 20 presidents and prime ministers signing vaguely worded statements with no binding force; history is not made by communiqué.
