
On Nov. 6, Ukrainian Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal announced that Sweden helped Ukraine produce 400 long-range drones used to strike targets inside Russia. He signed a defense innovation partnership with Swedish Defense Minister Pål Jonson under the Danish funding model.
Sweden, which has already provided over $9 billion in aid and plans to allocate another $8 billion by 2027, is also supplying JAS 39 Gripen E fighter jets and Archer artillery systems, according to The Kyiv Independent. The move highlights Sweden’s key role in boosting Ukraine’s defense production and deep-strike capabilities against Russia. They write:

In May 2025, the Gripen E also became the first fighter jet flown by artificial intelligence.
And then there is the Archer artillery system, one of the world’s most advanced artillery systems, capable of firing projectiles at a distance of up to 50 kilometers. […]
The partnership with Sweden marks a step forward in Ukraine’s calls to its Western allies for funding to domestically produce long-range weapons, after seeing the Western hesitation in providing missiles that would hit Russia.
