Former MI6 chief Sir Richard Moore tells Sky News that Russian military losses in Ukraine have been “astonishing,” with about 30,000 Russian troops killed in December 2025 alone—more than twice the total Soviet losses during the decade‑long Soviet‑Afghan War. He argued that Russia is struggling to replace such losses and continues to perform poorly on the battlefield, though he noted that Russian President Vladimir Putin is still “more comfortable than he should be.” Moore also called for increased Western support to Ukraine to maintain pressure on Moscow and help Kyiv achieve its objectives.
