Ukraine has shifted to long-range missile and drone strikes deep inside Russia, aiming to pressure the Kremlin into peace talks by targeting oil refineries and infrastructure, according to The New York Times. President Zelensky calls it “long-range sanctions,” meant to inflict economic pain and stir public unrest. Trump supports the strikes, seeing them as leverage for negotiations, but it remains unclear if they’ll bring Russia to the table.
Blaze Erupts at Russian Fuel Depot
Ukrainian drones struck Russia’s largest oil depot in occupied Crimea’s Feodosia overnight on Oct. 13, igniting a massive fire and damaging multiple fuel tanks and an electrical substation, according to a Ukrainian security source. The facility, key to Russian military logistics, has now been hit twice in a week, reports The Kyiv Independent. Ukraine continues targeting Russian oil infrastructure to weaken Moscow’s war effort, with officials reporting a 21% drop in Russia’s refining capacity amid growing fuel shortages.
