Trump Could “Astonish the World”

April 24, 2018 By Richard C. Young

President Donald J. Trump announces the coordinated attacked by the armed forces of the United States, France, and the United Kingdom against the Syrian regime of Bashar al-Assad in response to the recent chemical attack against Syrian civilians by the Assad regime | April 13, 2018 (Official White House Photo by Joyce N. At The American Conservative, Pat Buchanan writes that President Trump could astonish the world and even win the Nobel Peace Prize if he were to get North Korea to sign the same deal Iran did regarding nuclear weapons. By all reports, Trump seems eager for a deal with Kim Jong-Un. Why then would he consider trashing the Iran deal, which is working as it was intended? Pat writes (abridged):

Before President Trump trashes the Iran nuclear deal, he might consider: if he could negotiate an identical deal with Kim Jong-un, it would astonish the world and win him the Nobel Peace Prize.

For Iran has no nuclear bomb or ICBM and has never tested either. It has never enriched uranium to bomb grade. It has shipped 98 percent of its uranium out of the c ountry. It has cameras inside and inspectors crawling all over its nuclear facilities.

Trump has to decide on the Iran deal by May 12. And we will likely know what Kim is prepared to do, and not prepared to do, equally soon.

France’s President Emmanuel Macron is in D.C. to persuade Trump not to walk away from the Iran deal. …Chancellor Angela Merkel will be arriving at week’s end with a similar message.
