Immigrant Men Terrorize Women in Paris

The 2007 riots in Paris, seen here, received a lot more media attention, but the problems have been ongoing.

Did you see any news about the tumultuous riots in France in February on CNN? MSNBC? Even Fox News? Unlikely. Violence between the immigrant communities and the police has become so common in France it’s barely worth a mention on the American cable news networks. In February, after allegations of police brutality the immigrant communities around France were turned into “no-go zones,” as in, don’t go there if you want to live. Here’s some video of the chaos from Express:

But the fear French citizens feel isn’t contained to nights of riots. French women are harassed every day as they pass through “no-go zones.” Crowds of immigrant men are known to verbally and even sexually abuse French women passing through these areas. Fed up with the poor treatment and the lack of action from the inept French government, women have begun to protest. Heat Street writes:

Women in Paris have been protesting against ‘no go zones’ where immigrants from Asia and Africa pester and abuse them.

It’s claimed the district of Chapelle-Pajol, in the north east of the French capital, has become more dangerous for women as the rate of immigration there grows. Large groups of men are said to hang around in the streets, sometimes drinking, and often intimidate women.

One 80-year-old woman from the district has even said she was sexually assaulted walking home one night.

Others have complained about catcalls and verbal abuse, which makes them feel unsafe.

Dozens turned out to protest against the so-called ‘no go zones’ on Friday. ‘The problems in the area are real,’ Clare Rougy, one of the demonstrators, told The Local.
