The Media/Tech’s New Jacobin Model

October 28, 2020 By Debbie Young

Remember the days when news organizations were dependent on advertising for revenues? Those were the days before they went to digital giants. Today’s newspaper models are increasingly dependent on subscribers willing to pay a few hundred dollars a year. It’s like belonging to a membership club of like-minded people, writes the WSJ.

Journalist, the New Activists

Those members won’t take kindly to being told the Democrats they support are flawed or corrupt or dumb.

The media/tech wall that is meant to protect Joe Biden in the final days of the 2020 presidential campaign has taken on a brazen new level of skewing information toward an ideological pole.

If they do hold Democrats accountable, you can bet it will be not to the standards of, let’s say, the median voter. It will be to the demands of critical race theory, woke norms and climate extremism. And all along, their allies in the tech companies will use their even greater power to keep to a minimum dissenting voices.

If Mr. Biden and his Democrats take control after next week’s election, it will raise profound questions for the future, warns the WSJ. The fear is the communications apparatus, which controls well over half of the public media channels in this country, will become a vehicle for state propaganda.

Dismissing criticism, some in the old guard media “defend their status as Mr. Biden’s praetorian guard on the grounds that Donald Trump is a unique threat to democracy and that they have been forced to take commensurately unusual measures.”

Newsrooms are now hostage to narrow-minded post-teenage social justice warriors who have no time for the idea that there might be an alternative to their own Maoist ideology. Forget “objectivity.” Journalists have a moral purpose.

Punished for Reporting on Biden

About two weeks after the Hunter Biden story dropped, one of America’s oldest newspapers, the NY Post, “still has its Twitter account locked for doing journalistic work that might hurt Joe Biden’s campaign,” reports BRIGHT editors.

From the New York Post:

So the only reason for social media to continue to punish The Post is not because of any “fake news” concerns — it’s because they’re mad about any story that hurts Joe Biden.

Twitter is still demanding The Post delete six posts linking to our reporting (tweets that don’t violate their rules!) before restoring our account — even though any user can now freely share those stories.

There’s no rhyme or reason to this, just vindictive partisanship from outlets that claim to be “neutral platforms.”

John Daniel Davidson (The Federalist) notes from Matt Taibbi:

The dogged refusal of the mainstream press to cover the (Hunter/Joe Biden) story, together with Twitter and Facebook’s decision to block access to the Post’s reporting, might prove to be a bigger scandal than whatever Hunter and his dad were up to in China.

Information about the Biden scandal has been so politicized, writes Taibbi, that American audiences can hardly look up anything about Hunter and China without running into ‘thickets of propagandistic contextualizing’ — fact-checks and explainers and op-eds that keep readers away from what substantive reporting does exist, lest they come to their own conclusions about the Biden family business.
