At The American Spectator, Jeffrey Lord explains that the 2020 election “like the 2016 election, is about the Bipartisan Establishment versus the Deplorables.” He writes of Democrats’ attempts to rally behind the flawed Joe Biden (abridged):
They are utterly clueless that what they are doing helps Donald Trump.
As the impassioned support for the socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders rises inside their party, threatening to swamp and sink the Democratic Party, Establishment Democrats and Never Trump Republicans have rallied to the gaffe-prone, frequently confused former vice president. Because, of course, he’s one of them.
Biden, heretofore lagging badly to Bernie Sanders and his army of young socialists, finally managed to win his first primary ever — South Carolina.
What all of this illustrates vividly is exactly what President Trump and his supporters have long since come to believe as gospel. The 2020 election, like the 2016 election, is about the Bipartisan Establishment versus the Deplorables — average, hardworking Americans. And as Hillary Clinton made plain, the Establishment views the Deplorables with utter disgust and disdain.
This past week was the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), featuring thousands of conservatives from across America — and yes, others from places like Australia, Brazil, Japan, South Korea, and Venezuela. It was sold out. Without doubt the president was the star of the event — but also without doubt he was drawing a line in the sand between himself and his millions of supporters versus the elites of the Washington Establishment.
The sudden rush by Establishment Democrats and Never Trump Establishment Republicans to rally and endorse Joe Biden is one more serious mistake these people simply cannot keep themselves from making.
All of it that is playing perfectly into Trump’s hands.
