A recent TIME article tells readers that Congressman Ron Paul of Texas is keen on the teachings of the Austrian-school economists who champion unfettered markets and individualism. What a shame for TIME readers that they must be informed by a supposedly enlightened mass-market publication that the Austrian-school of economics is somehow obscure. The reality here is that any American who has not had a course or done some reading on the Austrian school has missed the boat in a serious fashion. No names in the history of economics are more important than Ludwig von Mises and Friedrich A. Hayek, two of the dominant leaders in the Austrian school of economic thought.
The TIME article goes on to misinform readers that for years, Paul was something of a running joke in Congress. I doubt the Republican Liberty Caucus views Dr. Paul as a joke. Does TIME perhaps imply that Dr. Paul is a joke in relation to such champions of liberty and freedom as Nancy Pelosi and Barney Frank? One would dearly hope not.
The absolute truth is that no member of the House (and to be fair the house has a handful of informed members) comes anywhere near to Dr. Paul on the fundamentals of liberty and freedom, the foundations of a federal republic form of government, and free markets. And I emphasize, not even close. As for a Senate competitor to Dr. Paul, well….
I have followed Dr. Paul’s work from the beginning and want to assure fellow Americans that if there is a single member of Congress who should be listened to and admired it is Ron Paul. No, Dr. Paul is not a commanding speaker. He is however principled and knowledgeable on the economic, monetary and security issues that so dearly matter to us all. I advise all Americans to buy copies of Dr. Paul’s End the Fed. I would also like to end the Fed. If one is looking for folk to blame for the recent financial meltdown, one could do worse than starting with Alan Greenspan. TIME mocks Dr. Paul with reference to jumbled syntax, reedy voice and wiry frame. What a pathetic portrayal of a patriotic American whose efforts on behalf of all Americans are hard pressed to be matched by any member of the current, or most recent governing crowds in Washington. For the record, it certainly would appear that Dr. Paul’s son Rand is cooking along on the same liberty-and-freedom course that his dad has followed. I urge all to check out all of my home page liberty and freedom links. You can become familiar with names of other liberty and freedom proponents like Dale Peterson and Sheriff Richard Mack.
