As they watch politicians call for curbs on their freedom of speech, Second Amendment rights, and freedom of mobility, many Americans today are wondering what must be done to preserve their freedom. Below you’ll find the foundations of what Americans must preserve, and aspire to in order to protect their freedom long-term. These segments, outlined by me and Your Survival Guy, E.J. Smith, are the bread and butter basics of American freedom. Without these principles, it will be difficult, if not impossible, to preserve freedom for future generations. It starts with a focus on real liberty, not on appeasing those in power. And never trading real liberty for phony security. That security should be backed up by a strong Second Amendment. States’ rights should put the fifty “laboratories of democracy” in competition with one another to attract the lifeblood of the American economy, its people. And finally, America should look to what has worked so well for it in the past, but has been forgotten for some time, Swiss-style federalism that keeps power local.
Focusing on these principles can secure the foundations of a future of freedom for America.
The Mises Caucus: Michael Heise: Ron Paul.
At LewRockwell.com, Tom Woods discusses the terrible state of today’s Libertarian Party and the efforts of Michael Heise, Chairman of the Libertarian Party’s Mises Caucus. The caucus recently took control of the national party at its convention in Reno, with plans to put the party’s emphasis back on liberty. Woods writes (abridged):
From the Tom Woods Letter:
Throughout the two-year lockdown/mask/mandate regime, we barely heard a peep out of the national Libertarian Party.
Some good work was done at the state and local level, and my friend Angela McArdle, of the Los Angeles County LP, did heroic work in Los Angeles against the absurd mandates there.
But the national party was a disgrace, as usual.
You can always count on the national party, and its feckless, constantly ratioed Twitter account, to jump on whatever the latest leftist bandwagon is, to adopt the regime’s line on controversial issues (Tucker Carlson and January 6 are existential threats to America, of course), and to try to appear “respectable” as if that will make the regime like them.
These are the kinds of people who would die a thousand deaths before publicly challenging an Anthony Fauci, since don’t you know he’s the expert?
We dissidents are just such an embarrassment to them.
Not to mention, portions of the national leadership have been known to attack our most popular and productive voices, including even Ron Paul himself.
So in 2017, Michael Heise decided: no more.
If there’s going to be a party with “libertarian” in its name, it’s not going to be a pathetic embarrassment. It’s going to be bold. It’s going to say things nobody else will say. It’s going to focus on the empire (and not shrink from using the word “empire” just because it will make Henry Kissinger unhappy), central banking, and the other issues that animated the Ron Paul Revolution.
So he created the Mises Caucus of the Libertarian Party, which Ron Paul himself has called “the libertarian wing of the Libertarian Party.”
This past weekend, in Reno, the caucus was put to the test.
And guess what.
It was a clean sweep.

PAUL: Politicians “Trade Real Liberty for Phony Security”
America, as an idea, is founded on liberty. The Constitution was never intended to give the federal government unlimited powers in order to make the citizenry “safe.” In fact, the Bill of Rights was written specifically to constrain the federal government in its ability to “help,” Americans by smothering them with restrictive laws. In the wake of more calls to limit the rights of Americans, former congressman and presidential candidate, Dr. Ron Paul, explains how politicians want to “trade real liberty for phony security.” He writes at the Ron Paul Institute (abridged):
Authoritarian politicians wasted no time using the recent shootings in Buffalo, New York, and Uvalde, Texas, to justify new infringements on liberty.
Just days after the Buffalo shooting, the US House of Representatives passed a law creating new domestic terrorism offices in the FBI, the Justice Department, and the Department of Homeland Security.
This is a step toward achieving the longstanding goal of many progressives of focusing the national security state on “domestic terrorists” and “right-wing extremists.”
Supporters of these efforts have used the Buffalo shooter’s mention of “replacement theory” in his “manifesto” to attack prominent conservative commentators, most notably Tucker Carlson. Carlson and others are accused of spreading the replacement conspiracy theory because they have pointed out that the Left has for years celebrated the coming “replacement” of the white majority population.
The goal is to stigmatize, intimidate, and even criminalize those expressing views or facts that contradict the cultural Marxists or the Democrat party establishment.
If Congress was serious about protecting liberty and security, they would pass Kentucky Representative Thomas Massie’s legislation repealing the “Gun-Free School Zones Act of 1990.” This poorly worded law leaves children defenseless against mass shooters who are not dissuaded from their evil intentions by “Gun-Free Zone” signs.
Expanding the police state to “monitor” right-wing extremism and giving the government new powers to deny law-abiding individuals access to firearms make us less safe and less free. Instead of allowing politicians to use mass shootings as an excuse to further expand their powers, we must insist they repeal all federal laws that trade real liberty for phony security starting with the USA FREEDOM Acts (previously known as the USA PATRIOT Act) and the so-called Safe and Gun Free Schools Act.

GUN CONFISCATION: You Think It Can’t Happen Here?
It can’t happen here, right? Well, it’s happened in Australia. It’s happened in the United Kingdom, and now it’s happening in Canada. The Anglophile world is losing its gun rights one country at a time. Still think it can’t happen here?
At The Blaze, Sarah Taylor reports on Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s plan for mandatory gun buybacks (aka confiscation with remuneration). She writes:
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau plans to buy back assault-style firearms and place a freeze on handguns in response to the recent school shooting in Uvalde, Texas.
What are the details?
According to a report from the Washington Post, Canada introduced gun control legislation that would prompt a “national freeze” on purchasing, importing, and transferring handguns.
The bill would also include red-flag laws that would permit judges to at least temporarily remove firearms from at-risk people and enact a mandatory buyback program offering compensation to any owners of banned firearms.
In a statement on the legislation, Trudeau said, “We recognize that the vast majority of gun owners in this country are responsible and follow all necessary laws. We are, however, facing a level of gun violence in our communities that is unacceptable.”
“Unfortunately, the reality is in our country [gun violence] is getting worse and has been getting worse over the past years,” Trudeau continued. “We need only look south of the border to know that if we do not take action, firmly and rapidly, it gets worse and worse and more difficult to counter.”

The Swiss Way
UPDATE: In the Cato Institute’s most recent Human Freedom Index, Switzerland was ranked #1 for having the most personal and economic freedom among the world’s countries. Switzerland scored especially well for its sound money, press freedom, and low crime. Switzerland has ranked first or second every year in the index.

I have written in the past of the Swiss Confederation and its weak central government form (the presidency is a ceremonial office and rotates). The office has no powers above the other six members of the Swiss Federal Council. The entire Federal Council is considered a collective head of state. Switzerland is a neutral country with a low crime rate and a powerful national defense system. Instead of fielding a large standing army, Switzerland requires every man to undergo military training for a few days or weeks a year throughout most of his life. Each man is required to keep his assigned automatic rifle at home at the ready. The Swiss are powerful believers in individual liberty and freedom. They believe that there is no need for a higher legal authority to check people’s initiatives. In fact, federal court in Switzerland is not allowed to rule on any constitutional matter at the national level. The Swiss are all about keeping things at the cantonal level. Keep it local is the key in Switzerland.
There is a lot to learn for Americans from “the Swiss way.” Switzerland’s model is precisely the weak form of central government intended by our Founders. The best outline of what a constitutionally strong form of federal republic looks like is Ron Paul’s Liberty Defined. The chapter on “Empire” alone will amaze you.
